R.275 Modern House – Instruction Manual
Artist publication from the series R.275 Modern House featuring colour photographs and instructions to build house. Partially funded through the Artquest ‘Selling Out’ bursary.
After purchasing a discontinued model house made by Hornby, Paul Greenleaf tracked down the original building the model was based on, a semi-detached house in Margate built in 1971. The resulting work is a visual deconstruction and subsequent reconstruction of the ubiquitous ‘modern’ house.

Optimism Revisited
Limited edition artist book from the series Optimism Revisited signed by the artist. Partially funded through the Artquest ‘Selling Out’ bursary.
These pictures are new compositions from old postcards, many from the 1970s, and new photographs. In each example the skies have been manipulated to appear almost uncannily blue and flawless. The skies in these pictures never really existed and perhaps neither did the mood they encompass but in these pictures both can be revisited.

News From Nowhere postcards
Limited edition postcard from the series News From Nowhere handwritten by the artist.
Depicting a journey through an alternate English landscape where the terrain is dominated by man-made structures and natural features are increasingly manipulated to suit social needs. Architecture with no clear purpose pervades each scene creating a sense of unease, subjugation and authoritarian control. Formal and intellectual elements from traditional romantic landscape painting are referenced creating images of contrived places; familiar yet somehow different, somewhere but at the same time nowhere.

Here Today postcards
Limited edition postcards from the series Here Today, 2010
These photographs evoke nostalgic scenes but contain contemporary details. Each image contains a collection of small moments suspended and combined into a single scene, creating a hyperreal landscape with an everyday narrative. The work references the visual language of mid-twentieth century picture postcards to reinterpret the modern urban landscape and asks the question, where are we today?
