Colour calibration

The book I am in the process of producing will contain a variety of media in the form of different photographic or printed source material. So far this includes:

  • Polaroids
  • 5×4 film
  • B&W line art: instruction from model
  • Litho printed colour material:  postcards, model packaging
  • Digital photographs

The difficulty with combining this material is maintaining quality and consistency of colour reproduction. To help with this I frequently calibrate my monitor and scanner to ensure colour continuity. Forum discussion here about what equipment you need to do this:

In addition it’s vital to use the correct colour profiles when sending files to print, and always get a proof (test print) first. Wiki page here describing colour management.
